We had large antennas on top of the tank in the desert, and during sandstorms those things would shock the crap out of you.

Nothing like playing BGM while trying to listen for static discharge.

Nothing like holding a graphite lighting rod in your hands, in a storm.

I thought they got to close to a naval op area and they were doing firing exercises

Used to climb telecom towers for a living. These were used specifically for high frequency trading firms, and the majority of them were around 400 feet tall. We'd usually climb down if we noticed lightning storms moving in, but after doing it for 6 years, you get a bit cocky, and so, not wanting to have to climb all the way back up and rig ropes again at a later date just to finish the work, we'd sometimes just look at the trajectory the storm would be moving in, and basically betting on it passing us by. Anyway, long story short, we bet wrong one time. And you could hear the steel of the tow
