The scariest activity known to man is stacking shelves and waiting tables, who would've guessed? Join my Patreon so I don't have to auction my limbs and for exclusive behind the scenes, bonus videos, artwork and more I guess: http://patreon.com/thafnine BONUS 2ND CHANNEL VIDEO: https://youtu.be/kqcs7G2rbFs Written, directed, performed and edited entirely by Thafnine. No generative AI was used in the production of this video. In this video essay (or a retrospective poorly disguised as a video essay), Thafnine discuss The Problems with Modern Indie Horror Games... that's actually such a banger title why didn't he go for that? Anyway this video is a retrospective on indie horror games, starting with a look back at Amnesia: The Dark Descent, leading into a talk about Penumbra and Frictional Games. Then Thafnine talks about the effect FNaF (or Five Nights at Freddy's) had on the modern gaming landscape, specifically the impact of five nights at freddy's on the modern indie horror game landscape. Somehow he doesn't even mention mascot horror in the video, that's some restraint, am I right? Anyways he then talks about the P.T. for Silent Hills directed by Hideo Kojima and the effect that Silent Hills could have had on the industry if Silent Hills was actually released, but it didn't get released, so I guess we're all buggered! But don't worry, he talks about something that actually did release and the effects of it, specifically Power Drill Massacre and Puppet Combo's games starting a trend of PS1 and PSX indie horror games focusing on the low poly graphics. But that's not all, because let's plays are brought into the mix, especially the amount of jumpscare reaction compilations released by YouTubers such as CoryxKenshin, PewDiePie, Markiplier, CaseOh and more. Thafnine talks about Twitch and YouTube streamers and their effect on indie horror games, such as iShowSpeed being really influential in shaping a lot of opinions on horror games as he blew up on YouTube. I think that's pretty much it, that's all I can really mention in the video without spoiling the problems with modern indie horror games, or the decline of indie horror games, but one things for sure. Thafnine will let you all know in this video that Indie Horror Games Have a SLOP Problem. Yes, he said SLOP. Okay I think that's it, if you're reading this far, thanks for your patience- yes Thafnine has a vtuber model, get mad, but don't worry it's not gonna be the main focus of content forever!
