With its iconic inverted gull wings and Jericho Trumpet sirens, the Stuka was engineered to deliver heavy payloads with pinpoint precision while shattering the morale of enemy ground troops. But this devastating accuracy came at a severe cost. The Stuka was agonizingly slow, turning the feared dive bomber into easy prey for faster Allied fighters. How did the aircraft release a massive bomb in a near-vertical dive without it smashing into the spinning propeller blades? How did an ingenious automatic recovery system pull the plane out of its plunge and save pilots who blacked out from crushing 6-G forces? And why did Junkers engineers decide to mount its massive V-12 engine completely upside down? Watch our new film to see how the Ju-87 B-2 Stuka was built, how its intricate dive mechanics functioned, and what made it one of the most terrifying, iconic, and ultimately vulnerable aircraft of World War II.
