This is incorrect. The spider was indeed painted and the ladder is true but there was no CGI involved. They had to find a non-venomous spider and it actually bit Tobey Maguire in that scene and in fact the only real CGI in that movie was the glasses scene and the swinging, and even when he stuck to the ceiling to avoid Osborn from finding him unmasked was practically filmed. You can even see a hook holding him up in the avoiding Osborn scene Edit: guys stop arguing I’m pretty sure Sam Raimi confirmed what i said a while back Edit 2: MOM IM FAMOUS
