Description
This is not gonna work- A floor register got installed right by the front door. Let’s see if we can move it… The boots for these registers are held in with roofing nails. So, I use a cat’s paw and a hammer to pry on the boot and then I pop the nails out. Luckily, the flex line wasn’t hooked up yet. I asked The New Guy if he could work late and patch this hole, he mumbled something about dinner plans and drove off. I guess I’ll do it myself. I start by cutting a piece of subfloor 2 inches bigger than the hole all the way around. Then I install a 3” screw in the middle to use as a handle. Next, I put subfloor adhesive around the edges. I lower it the piece down through the floor using the screw as a handle and pull it back up tight. I use the claw end of my hammer to hold the board tight while I fasten it in place with screws. If you ask me, glue is like horsepower- you can’t have too much. I found the piece of subfloor that was cut out for the floor register and put it right back in the hole. I’m screwing it down with 1 ½” T25 deck screws. Honestly, I would argue that this repair is stronger than the original floor- what do you think? @hausplans #build #howto #construction #diy #contractor #hackShow all

Holding that “handle” screw with the claw was so satisfying, and brilliant to watch. I’ve done something similar with drywall.

Maybe, we need to give the new guy a good raise to work hard!

Glue = horse power. The most unintentional literal true statement.

The new guy tried to tell you not to put it there before you installed it there. He's the best at everything he does

As a homeowner with a house where "fixer upper" is a dramatic understatement, seeing you pop up while doom scrolling is always a treat. It's like a shorts version of This Old House!

Finally someone who uses as many screws as my father would have.
